Dr. Jyoti Bachani is an associate professor at Saint Mary’s College of California, where she teaches courses in Strategy, Management of Creativity and Innovation and Digital Story Telling. She has previously taught at the University of Redlands, San Francisco State and Virginia Tech Universities. In an earlier career as a strategy consultant to Fortune 200 companies, she worked for Strategic Decisions Group.
She earned her Phd at London Business School, United Kingdom, a Masters in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University, an MBA and Bachelor of Science (Physics) Delhi University, India. Her research interests are in Humanising Management by using the arts, of poetry, improv and digital story telling. She trained under Profs. Sumantra Ghoshal and Ronald Howard, and quickly estbalished a professional reputation as an award winning case-writer with a special interest in technology companies and not-for-profit organizations in Silicon Valley and India. In 2016, her research was awarded the best field based paper award at the Academy of Management (AoM). She regularly leads professional development workshops for other faculty at the AoM, the Western Academy of Management (WAM), Indian Academy of Management (INDAM), North American Case Research Association (NACRA), and Humanistic Management conferences.
She is a founding member of the US and India Chapters of the International Humanisitic Management Association. She has been the editor-in-chief of the largest collection of online case studies, Emerald Emerging Markets Case Collection, and a guest editor for special issue of Journal of Organizational Aesthetics on Poetry for Organizing. She has served as the president of Western Casewriters Assocition, and a board member of NACRA in the past. She currently serves on the editorial board of WAM’s Journal of Management Inquiry, and is an executive member of WAM and the Management Spirituality and Religion interest group of AoM.
In 2012, she spent an academic year in India as a Fullbright Senior Research Scholar, based at the Management Development Institute in Gurgaon. Within Saint Mary’s she has served on the Academic Senate as well as the Rank and Tenure committees, and has been recognized with awards for excellence in teaching and research.
