Speaker Update: Closing the Gap

We are very excited to confirm that Shane Hamilton, Deputy Secretary for NSW Aboriginal Affairs and Mitch Lowrie, Manager of Aboriginal Initiatives, NSW Department of Education have agreed to join ACU’s inaugural Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), Kelly Humphrey, on a panel to discuss the Closing the Gap program.

Closing the Gap is a partnership between Australian government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people based on a National Agreement to improve life outcomes and reduce disparities. With targets across a range of areas including health, education and employment, the panel will review how the program operates, the priorities of the program, its successes and challenges in a wide-ranging discussion. The lessons learned from the Australian experience have relevance and resonance across the world where First Nations people are currently experiencing disadvantage.
