To Move or Not to Move: That Is the Question!
Jason was a recent graduate from Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland, Florida. As one of the top two electrical engineering students in the country, he was a recipient of the prestigious Master’s Award. The award came with a three-year offer of employment as an electrical engineer with a famous defense contractor, paying $70,000 per year. In addition, the company would pay for Jason to complete his master’s degree in electrical engineering. Jason had hoped he would be placed in Boston, Massachusetts, but he was placed in Cleveland, Ohio instead. He took the position in Cleveland and his first year was successful, but when he received the opportunity to move to Boston, with an $8,000 per year raise, he jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately, living in Boston was much more expensive than he had anticipated, and he found himself wanting to return to Cleveland. Was moving to Boston the right move?
