A central premise of the Global Jesuit Case Series (GJCS) -- a key platform for collaboration across the
Jesuit network -- is that organizational stories can be the basis of exceptional teaching cases and that
teaching cases are instrumental in developing principled leadership skills. This paper discusses the
challenges associated with transforming Joe Savage’s story about principled leadership at Victaulic into a
teaching case suitable for the GJCS. This paper will include a transcript of Joe Savage’s inspirational
story, and consider the challenges presented in translating it into a GJCS teaching case.
