It is clear that the social entrepreneur is a genuine type of entrepreneur whose main aim is to create a transformational social impact through a sustainable business model. In our review of literature about the profile of the social entrepreneur we find a gap relating to leadership by social entrepreneurs. Our research question is whether we need a new theory or whether theories about servant leadership and transformational leadership are suitable. We attempt to illuminate this matter through a focus on Ignatian leadership and the role of Jesuit universities in the training of leaders and social entrepreneurs.
