Using a Scavenger Hunt to Teach Mission

This paper will discuss the use of a team-building scavenger hunt to teach students about the mission of the university. Scavenger hunts are touted as building problem-solving skills, teaching team-work, and being versatile enough to work in a variety of situations. Several companies offer to create corporate scavenger hunts for organizations. Despite the apparent popularity of scavenger hunts, little has been written about them in higher education journals. This presentation and paper will discuss a scavenger hunt designed at a Jesuit university that helps with both team-building and discussions of the mission. It is hoped that the presentation can provide participants with ideas for creating their own scavenger hunts.
