Most undergraduate business students take an Introductory Accounting course. Its content usually focuses on developing knowledge of key accounting concepts and competencies in bookkeeping and reporting procedures, with scant emphasis in understanding the meaning of the material studied and its relation to the social context. In this paper, we propose a concrete group reflection activity designed to heighten students’ awareness of the usefulness of financial information for diverse users and communities, based on Ignatian Pedagogy and the Inspirational Paradigm. The activity integrates specific technical skills with the exploration of how the information contained in statements contributes to a broader understanding of society, including dimensions of sustainability and quality of life at the local, national, and global level. We provide an instrument and methodology for evaluating the intervention´s effectiveness.
