… Julio Fernández Techera, SI is the president of the Catholic University of Uruguay since 2016. Previously he had been the head of its Education Department, between 2012 and 2016. Education is his passion and field of expertise, especially management of educational institutions. He was Academic Director at Colegio Seminario until 2011, and he is currently the Executive Director of Fundación Sophia, an organization that belongs to the Archdiocese of Montevideo which aims to rescue catholic schools in poor neighborhoods. At the moment, Sophia runs 17 schools in Montevideo and the countryside, and others are preparing to enter the organization in 2018.
Fr. Fernández Techera, SI has a degree in History from Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and a degree in Theology from Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid. He also has a PHD in Philosophy and Education from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His doctoral thesis was published under the name Jesuits, Masons and University in Uruguay (1680-1903).
