Most deans, faculty, students, and other stakeholders agree that we need more ethics and social responsibility content in our business school curriculums. That is not news. The more interesting questions have to do with why this need is emerging now, how we have arrived at this point, and ultimately what content might help address the curriculum gaps? We believe that any examination of these questions would benefit from a deep dive into the historical development of industry, management, and management education that unfolded in Western economies over the past couple of centuries.
