John Katzman is a serial entrepreneur in the education space. Since he has built companies before, he knows that his role is more about identifying people who can execute rather than trying to wear many hats at the same time. John mentions that his job is to build, support, and maintain the management team. John says that dealing with (executive) leadership is the biggest problem he’s facing with Noodle. John was under the impression that he would be able to train two of his top guys to take over the day-to-day chief executive responsibilities. After some serious consideration, John realized that neither of the candidates were a good choice and that it was time to look outside the company. At this point, John needs to make a decision between hiring a seasoned executive with management experience or a start-up executive that’s well versed in many areas.
